When should you replace your hot water tank?
If your tank is ten years old or more, it's worth replacing before it leaks. A failed tank can mean flood damage and an insurance claim, and a new energy-efficient model costs less to run. Water heating is about 20 percent of a home's heating costs.
Anthony is a licensed Red Seal plumber. We install residential and commercial water heaters, and we handle emergency repairs and replacements.
Tank or tankless?
Storage tanks are the most common type. Tankless models don't store hot water: they heat it as it passes through the unit, so you only heat the water you use. Tankless heaters are:
- Usually more energy efficient
- Smaller and wall-mounted, which frees up floor space
- Very quiet
- Able to supply hot water continuously
We install high-efficiency condensing tankless heaters, such as the Rheem Prestige series, which can pair with a recirculation pump for hot water at the tap right away.
How do we choose the right water heater for you?
We look at three things:
- The size of your household and how much hot water you use
- The fuel available in your home
- Where the heater will go
